Smart Energy Meter: Quickly Reduce Your Electricity Bill

Looking for ways to lower your electricity consumption at home or in the office?

An innovative new device, called smart meter is now available that can help you reduce your consumption of electricity by 10 -30 %. It is compact, wireless, simple to install and can be easily programmed. What’s more, it is reasonably priced and you could recover that initial cost within weeks of installation.

The smart meter is designed with a clever memory facility that enables you to plan how and where you can reduce your electricity consumption every day, every week or every month. These readings can be linked to the company’s online site where you can keep track of your consumption and your savings. You can even build an energy profile of your own.

How does it work?

The smart meter is made up of three components: a square display monitor that is portable, a transmitter that sends information wirelessly to the monitor and a sensor that can be easily clipped on to a specific cable that lies under the electricity meter. The smart meter can be easily installed without the help of an electrician. It requires no special tools and there is no cable-cutting involved.

The compact monitor is highly sensitive and capable of picking up signals emitted from the transmitter even if they are 40 meters apart. This makes it convenient to use in a suite of offices or even a rambling five-bedroom house.

This little device, which is about as small as a standard electric light switch, is great for helping people become less wasteful and more energy efficient without having to make drastic changes to their lifestyles. Whether it is used in the home or the office, anybody can use the smart meter to get a real-time view of the amount of electricity that is being consumed, which are the devices that are consuming the most and which devices are running unnecessarily. This gives you a proper breakdown and helps you make the necessary changes. You could switch off appliances that are running unnecessarily even though they are not being used. Where possible, you could replace high-consumption appliances with energy-efficient ones.

See the results...

One example would be replacing old bulbs with new energy-efficient bulbs. After one month you can see the results of all your efforts. With the smart meter you can see exactly how much your energy consumption has gone down by and which are the appliances that are consuming less energy.

This smart meter can also be set for a specific maximum consumption level. When you exceed that level it sets off an alarm, thus keeping you in check.
