A metal L-shaped plate is placed inside the cover of the end book. This supports the books, holding them upright, and the birdie bookend is magnetically attracted to it on the outside of the cover. A fabulously simple yet creative idea by Neko Design, a birdie bookend would make a great eco-friendly gift for any book-lover, or someone who appreciates imaginative design in their home.
The bookends are handmade in Mexico from sand-cast recycled aluminium. Each piece is individually finished by hand, making it unique and reflecting the natural variation and organic beauty found in nature. The production process uses locally sourced materials, minimises waste and reduces product weights to ensure that every level of the product life cycle causes the lowest possible impact to the environment. The producers train and support local people and pay a fair wage above the market rate. We think the birdie bookends are proof that responsible consideration for the environment helps rather than hinders great design.
