The duo of Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman travelled around the world to record and mix this impressive multi-cultural music collage, collaborating with local performers, mainstream pop artists as well as masters of the more traditionally purist folk forms, the policy being to record each guest with a laptop, in or near their homes. Stops along the multicultural music production tour included Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, India, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, America and Europe. The 11-track CD features international stars such as Robbie Williams and REM’s Michael Stipe performing along side (electronically!) world music prodigies Baaba Maal and Speech, among others. None of the artists recorded together yet the songs are integrated so masterfully you'd never know. Whether you’re into pop, hip-hop, dance, R&B, or world music, you can’t help being moved by the tracks of 1 Giant Leap, which almost seem to pour out from the world’s collective musical soul. The CD’s theme of ‘Unity through Diversity’ is echoed by some poignant track vocals – both sung and spoken. Author Kurt Vonnegut suggests on the track Daphne that ‘Music is proof of the existence of God’. Listen to 1 Giant Leap and you’ll be sure to catch a glimpse of this.
